Cognizant to hire more in the US; no more voluntary separation package

Cognizant is planning to expand its workforce in the United States, along with the rising number of its delivery locations in the country, said Francisco D'Souza, CEO of the New-Jersey-based IT services company during an interview with The Hindu. "We have always been big hirers in the US. Last year, we hired 4,000 people in the US. We continue to be active in ramping up and hiring in the US because the skills and talents we need in the new digital world, like design talent, latest science, is available there," D'Souza said. This recruitment drive is necessitated by the increase in regional bases run by Cognizant in the US. "We are also bringing in more regional delivery locations in the US. AI, automation will cost 7 lakh IT jobs by 2022, says report

About 7 lakh low skilled workers in IT and BPO industry in India are likely to lose their jobs to automation and artificial intelligence by 2022, says a report by US-based research firm HfS Research. However, it is not a bad news for everyone, as the report predicts that medium and high skilled jobs will see a rise during the said period. Due to a rise in adoption of automation and artificial intelligence, the number of low skilled workers in India's IT and BPO service sectors could fall from 2.4 million in 2016 to 1.7 million in 2022, it said. However, the number of medium skilled jobs in IT/BPO industry in India could rise from 900,000 to 1 million by 2022, while the number of high skilled jobs could rise to 510,000 in 2022 from 320,000 in 2016.
